Pity Sex - “When You’re Around”
It makes me happy to hear new bands make songs like this.
Basically, pick any random day in the year 2000 and I was probably listening to a bunch of bands that sounded just like this.

Brett Netson “God Is Wrong”
Can’t wait to dive into this record tomorrow. Sounds exactly like what I’m looking for right now…
The Twilight Sad - “Suck” (acoustic)
Since we’re posting Twilight Sad covering other bands, here’s their take on The Wedding Present’s “Suck”, which is a BRILLIANT song.
This is from the free acoustic EP they released, though they also did a studio version of this song.
…thanks Ryan. Now I’ll be listening to Twilight Sad all day.
Planes Mistaken For Stars - “Copper & Stars”
That Hawk & Doves record (lead singer of PMFS) has had me going back to old PMFS and I just so totally, completely, fucking LOVE this song.
Tabula Rasa - “Dead Air”
One of those records I got…liked…filed…and totally forgot about.
Then it came on today, and sounded SUPER rad.
I’ll always love shit that sounds like this.
Night Beds - “Ramona”
I wish I could remember the blog that first turned me onto these, rather mysterious, guys a few years back.
In short, great songwriting. Period. Their previous two EPs are flawless, and this preview track from their upcoming record has me extremely excited to hear what’s in store.
Junius - “Fire Head” (Hum cover)
1) I’m super stoked to see these dudes next week with Alcest and Enslaved
2) This song is from their new split with Rosetta. Not only is the split rad, but THEY FUCKING COVER HUM!?!?!?!?!?!
Dude.

Band Shirt of The Day: JR Ewing
In 2005, Andrea and I decided to go to England for the first time and planned our trip around the All Tomorrow’s Parties music festival that December (curated by The Mars Volta).
It was a STELLAR lineup: Diamanda Galas, Antony & The Johnsons, 400 Blows, Mastodon, Acid Mother’s Temple, Les Savy Fav, Battles, Blonde Redhead, High On Fire, Dungen, The Locust, Mars Volta, The Fucking Champs, and…Norway’s favorite sons, JR Ewing.
If I’m being lazy (and I am), I’d say if you like bands like At The Drive-In, Refused, Blood Brothers…you know, smart 90s post-hardcore…you’re gonna be all over JR Ewing. They just completely crush. It kills me they aren’t together anymore.
But hey…I got a shirt.
White Walls - “TV Pants”
This week’s “bands that sound very 90s” worship continues with White Walls.
This RULES.
(doesn’t really kick in until about 30 seconds into it)
Broken Water - “Say What’s On Your Mind”
Yep…I really love shit that sounds like the 90s. This is CRUSHING me right now.
Heavy Breath - “Enter The Void”
Apologies for the NSFW album artwork, but I’m REALLY digging this record right now. And be sure to listen to the whole track…it covers a lot of stylistic ground.
It’s checking a lot of boxes for me…smart, aggressive, frustrated, brash, weighty, but still capturing a very punk spirit to it.
In some ways, not entirely dissimilar to what bands like The Icarus Line or Gay For Johnny Depp do. Which is to say…really uncomfortable punk rock with a lot of attitude.
