Band Shirt of The Day: Jawbreaker
Man…I have been fucking SLACKING on the BSOTD posts.

Band Shirt Of The Day: Morrissey (GPOYW edition)
Seeing Morrissey tonight! I think this will make it somewhere between 16 and 20 times I’ve seen him.
(if you care, the shirt says “The year 2000 won’t change anyone here” which is a lyric from “Reader Meet Author.” This shirt was made for the 99 tour.)

Band Shirt of The Day: Unbroken
This shirt is so beat to hell. It’s got to be 15ish years old, though it’s only been under my stewardship for the past 8 or 9 years, as it was a gift from a friend who had two.
It also has the Indecision Records logo on the back. Are they even still around?
Anyways…you really oughta listen to some Unbroken. Dudes from Unbroken went on to be in Some Girls, Narrows, and that other random band with Pettibone on vox. Shit…what were they called…something with a V…
THE VOWS!!!!
Okay…I’m done.

Band Shirt of The Day: The Strokes
This is probably one of like…eight Strokes shirts I have? Back in 01/02, we probably saw The Strokes like 20 times, going back to when I got this shirt at their first LA show opening for Doves (and later that week playing a free show at a nearly empty Dragonfly).
I also remember going to their “two dollar bill show” that MTV did. You can see Andrea and I all over that thing if you look it up on Youtube.
There’s so many presumptions and preconceived notions about this band. But in reality…they just write some great records.

Band Shirt of The Day: Helmet
This is another one I inherited from Andrea. Nothing wrong with Helmet at ALL…

Band Shirt Of The Day: At The Drive-In
October 4, 2000. Unequivocally, a night that changed my life. It wasn’t the first time I’d seen At The Drive-In, but it was maybe the most influential show I will ever go to.
It was the ultimate experience of the right band at the right place at the right time for ME. And from this show, I can honestly say the next 10 years of listening habits were largely shaped.
Here’s hoping we get a reunion one day…

Band Shirt of The Day: JR Ewing
In 2005, Andrea and I decided to go to England for the first time and planned our trip around the All Tomorrow’s Parties music festival that December (curated by The Mars Volta).
It was a STELLAR lineup: Diamanda Galas, Antony & The Johnsons, 400 Blows, Mastodon, Acid Mother’s Temple, Les Savy Fav, Battles, Blonde Redhead, High On Fire, Dungen, The Locust, Mars Volta, The Fucking Champs, and…Norway’s favorite sons, JR Ewing.
If I’m being lazy (and I am), I’d say if you like bands like At The Drive-In, Refused, Blood Brothers…you know, smart 90s post-hardcore…you’re gonna be all over JR Ewing. They just completely crush. It kills me they aren’t together anymore.
But hey…I got a shirt.

Band Shirt of The Day: Morrissey
C’mon people…plenty more where these came from. We’re just scratching the surface on the number of Smiths/Morrissey shirts I have.
This one, however, may be my favorite. For many reasons.
1) THE PHOTO! Awesome!! Interestingly, that’s actually Robert Wagner. This same image was used as the backdrop for the 97 tour.
2) This shirt was only sold at the Salt Lake City stop of the 97 tour. I happened to get it because I was on one of the Morrissey boards that were active back then, and I had someone who lived in Utah buy me the shirt at the show. I had seen Morrissey two weeks previous at The Greek and already bought one or two other shirts then. But this is the CLEAR winner.

Band Shirt of The Day: Mew
On a shitty night like tonight, I needed to post something a little lighter…
Not sure exactly when/where I got this shirt since I got to see them so many times and in so many places circa 2005-2007. LA, Chicago, NY, Austin (I think?)…
I need to pull out my Jonas artwork and post that sometime too…

Band Shirt of The Day: Scott Reynolds & The Steaming Beast
This one was a gift from Ryan.
Unfortunately, I never got to see Scott perform songs from The Steaming Beast album, but I have seen him with ALL and The Pavers (that will be a future BSOTD post).
I could go on and on about the genius of Scott Reynolds…which I have done at some point on basically every blog I’ve ever had. But yes, Ryan got to see him play in Colorado when he lived out there, and was good enough to get me a shirt. Which rules.

Band Shirt Of The Day: Richard Ashcroft
Pretty much every Verve fan I know hates this record (and his subsequent releases), but I LOOOOOVED this first album. Still do, actually. And the next two were good as well. But that debut….Song For The Lovers…so under appreciated.
While I may never have made it to a Verve show, I did have the amazing luck of seeing Richard play The Knitting Factory in LA back in 2001, where I got this shirt. We waited in line a few hours before doors, and ended up being right against the stage. It was totally amazing. After like 5 songs, and everyone yelling out Verve songs, Richard finally just starts taking requests. It was insane.
And yes, he played “History”…my favorite Verve song. Which I screamed my bloody head off til he played it. Actually, “Man Called Sun” is probably my favorite Verve song, but how the hell would you play that acoustic?

Band Shirt of The Day (homemade edition): Keith Richards
Like many college students, I was a broke-ass motherfucker. So my roommate and I used to go to the local sporting good store and buy baseball tees (they were like $7, it ruled) and iron-on inkjet paper and make cheap band shirts. Because 1) no one came to the town we went to school in, and 2) even if they did we probably couldn’t have afforded to go.
I remember making a Placebo shirt, a Babybird shirt, and I think a Pavement shirt. Sadly, this Keith Richards shirt is the only one that survives. If you can’t tell, it’s the famous “WHO THE FUCK IS MICK JAGGER” picture.
This shirt is 14 years old. Wow.

Band Shirt of The Day: Jeff Buckley
Got this shirt at a screening of a French Jeff Buckley documentary which was shown in like 99 or 2000. Jeff’s mom (and Michael Tighe from his band) were invited to speak, and actually showed up with left over merch from his last tour before his death.
Bought this shirt and one other, and they also gave us some Buckley guitar picks.
RIP.
